The Teamsters Union
recognizes Workers' Memorial Day—April
28—a day to honor the many working
men and women who have been killed and injured
on the job, and help reduce the number of
accidents in the future. To help mark this
important day, the Teamsters are providing
resources to help with the planning of
activities at local unions and job sites.

Teamsters Warn of Problems With Port Driver
Background Checks
On April 12, the Teamsters
Union warned of the difficulty of performing
background checks on port drivers for the
government's Transportation Worker
Identification Credential (TWIC), the topic of a
Senate Commerce Committee hearing.
Philadelphia School Administrators Denounce
Proposed Budget Cuts
School
administrators in Philadelphia, who are
represented by Local 502, expressed their
outrage over the proposed $100 million in
additional budget cuts that the city’s troubled
schools will be forced to endure.
Teamsters Protest Coke Layoffs at Padres Game in
Southern California
At
the San Diego Padres’ second home game April 11,
scores of Teamsters protested over a hometown
issue: a potentially massive restructuring by
Coca-Cola Enterprises and its largest bottler,
CCE that has already hurt Southern California
workers and their families.
Teamsters, Members of Congress Rally for School
Bus Workers' Rights
Teamsters rallied here today, calling on the
world’s largest private school bus
transportation company to treat its workers
fairly and remain neutral in their fight to form
a union.
Seattle School Board Selects School Bus
Contractors
In a
6-1 vote, the Seattle Public School Board
decided to keep Laidlaw and First Student as
providers of school bus transportation services
for the city's schools over a bid by Durham
School Services. The decision protects the jobs
of the nearly 80 Laidlaw drivers and aides
represented by Local 174.
6,500 Northop Grumman Workers
Ratify Contract, End Strike
The 15 unions that
comprise the Pascagoula Metal Trades
overwhelmingly voted in favor of a new
three-year contract with Northrop Grumman,
securing a 15.2 percent wage increase over the
term of the agreement.

International to Hold TLA for
Local Union Office Managers, May 17-18
The Teamsters
Department of Training and Development will
conduct a Teamsters Leadership Academy (TLA) for
Local Union Office Managers on May 17-18, 2007
in Washington, D.C. The two-day program will
draw on the expertise of Teamster staff and
affiliates, who will focus on time management,
TITAN IV, delegating work, effective
communications, labor history and much more.

Mechanics With AmeriCold
Logistics Join Local 63
Mechanics at
Americold Logistics in Ontario, California
recently became members of Local 63 in Covina
after the company agreed to card-check
recognition. The 10 mechanics join the 130
warehouse workers who became Teamsters in 2002.
Recently, workers at
the Nash Finch grocery warehouse in Westville,
Indiana joined Local 135 in Indianapolis. There
are 240 members in the bargaining unit.
